The producers of this image chose to include a thin, white border around the image.

I think the border allows the image to breathe. Without it, the viewer would probably feel some sort of unresolved tension toward the subject, but with the border there’s a subtle, relaxing effect as if to say “this will end well.” It’s nice to know that there are still artists out there, people who understand human emotion, who understand that images flow to the eyes like conveyor belts to the soul.
